Google Doodle Celebrates German Physicist Oskar Sala 112th birth anniversary

On July 18, Google will release a special Google Doodle honouring the brilliant electronic music composer and German physicist Oskar Sala, who turns 112 years old. The Doodle shows Sala creating music and inventing new instruments.

Sala, who is most known for creating sound effects on a musical instrument called a mixture-trautonium, enthralled audiences with songs like Rosemary (1959) and The Birds (1962), according to a blog post by Google.

Who is Oscar Sala ?

Sala, who was born in Germany in 1910 to musically gifted parents, started writing songs and melodies for the violin and piano when he was a little boy.

Sala was initially intrigued by the tonal possibilities and the technology the trautonium afforded. His studies in physics and composition at school were motivated by his desire to grasp trautonium and further develop it, Google claimed in the post.

"This change of focus inspired Sala to create his own instrument, the mixture-trautonium. He developed electronic music that distinguished his style from others using his training as an electro-engineer and composer. The construction of the mixture-trautonium is so distinctive that it may play multiple sounds or voices at once.

Sala garnered various honours for his work, appearing in radio shows and movies, meeting many performers, and giving numerous interviews. He gave the German Museum for Contemporary Technology his original concoction of tautonium in 1995.

Additionally, Sala constructed the Quartett-Trautonium, Concert Trautonium, and Volkstrautonium. His contributions to electronic music helped to establish the subharmonics field. The message continues, "He became a one-man symphony with his passion and creative fire.
